SLSU and UNISDA holds collaborative writeshop to advance research co-authorship and impact

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) and Universitas Islam Darul ‘Ulum (UNISDA) strengthened their international academic ties through the successful conduct of the Collaborative Writeshop on Bibliometric and Systematic Review Papers: Strengthening Co-authorship and Research Impact between SLSU and UNISDA, held virtually via Zoom Cloud Meetings on July 29, 2025. Organized by the Research, Innovation and Extension Services (RIES) Office of SLSU - San Juan Campus, the activity brought together faculty researchers and students from both institutions to enhance collaborative research capacity and scholarly visibility.
The writeshop featured a series of expert-led presentations from both institutions, beginning with Dr. Catherine M. Garcia, Coordinator for Research and Innovation at SLSU - San Juan Campus, who provided an in-depth discussion on the application of the PRISMA framework in conducting systematic review papers. She was followed by Dr. Melvin S. Sarsale, Head of the Research, Innovation, and Extension Services (RIES) of SLSU, who outlined a step-by-step guide for developing bibliometric and systematic review articles, offering participants practical methodologies aligned with international publishing standards.
Representing UNISDA, Dr. Novi Darmayanti, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, delivered a presentation on emerging research frontiers in the era of artificial intelligence, highlighting their significance in shaping innovative and future-oriented academic discourse. Dr. Ahmad Sholikin, Chair of the Institute for Research and Community Service Grants (LPPM), concluded the technical sessions with a comprehensive overview of potential collaborative research areas anchored on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The program culminated in an open forum, moderated by Mr. Jay K. Mahusay of SLSU, which provided a platform for dialogue, exchange of research ideas, and the identification of possible co-authorship initiatives between the two institutions.
As a forward-looking initiative, the writeshop also laid the groundwork for continued engagement between SLSU and UNISDA. Among the agreed next steps are the creation of a WhatsApp group for interested participants, the matching of research expertise across institutions, and the formation of bibliometric groups. These groups will collaborate in drafting manuscripts for publication in reputable journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, further strengthening the global presence of both institutions.
The collaborative writeshop marks a significant stride in SLSU’s and UNISDA’s shared commitment to advancing international academic collaboration. By creating meaningful spaces for joint research and scholarly exchange, both universities reaffirm their dedication to excellence, inclusivity, and the global impact of their research communities.
