Southern Leyte State U collaborates with BSP for new 1000-peso polymer banknote learning session
In an effort to enhance public awareness of monetary policy and promote financial literacy, Southern Leyte State University, in coordination with Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Regional Office VII and BSP Tacloban Field Office, conducted a comprehensive learning session and hands-on demonstration of the new 1000-peso polymer banknote on June 21, 2023 at the SLSU-Main Campus Multi-Purpose Court.
The learning session focused on educating participants about the security features of the recently introduced 1000-peso polymer banknote, as well as proper handling practices and essential dos and don'ts. The event aimed to equip attendees with the necessary knowledge to identify genuine banknotes and prevent counterfeiting.
As a testament to its dedication to promoting financial education, Southern Leyte State U was selected as the Knowledge Resource Network (KRN) by BSP. The university serves as a platform to disseminate information on monetary policy and other vital economic and financial concepts to the general public.
One notable aspect of the collaboration is the inclusion of various BSP publications at the university. These materials comprise books, annual reports, handbooks, comics, guidebooks, brochures, and audio-visual resources.
The BSP Library also provides these materials to Southern Leyte State U as part of the KRN initiative, allowing students and faculty members to access them for educational purposes free of charge.
University President Dr. Jude A. Duarte expressed his gratitude for the partnership with BSP and the opportunity to educate students and the community about monetary policy and financial matters.
"We are honored to be chosen as the Knowledge Resource Network by the BSP. This collaboration aligns with our mission to cultivate a generation of financially literate individuals who can contribute to the economic development of our country,” Dr. Duarte said.
Representatives from the BSP Regional Office VII and BSP Tacloban Field Office also commended the university’s commitment to promoting financial literacy and applauded the university's efforts to provide resources and learning opportunities to students and the public. They emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering a financially empowered society.
The learning session and hands-on demonstration of the 1000-peso polymer banknote exemplify the collective commitment of academic institutions and government agencies in empowering Filipinos with the knowledge needed to make informed financial decisions.
As BSP continues its efforts to ensure the security and integrity of the Philippine currency, collaborations like this serve as vital building blocks for a stronger and more financially resilient nation.
