Southern Leyte State U unveils IP-TBM marker
Southern Leyte State University proudly unveiled its Intellectual Property-Technology Business Management (IP-TBM) Marker on May 22, 2024, at the SLSU Mini Theater. This significant achievement was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) and SLSU.
The IP-TBM office at SLSU-San Juan Campus is poised to become a pivotal institution in Southern Leyte, facilitating intellectual property management and commercializing technologies and knowledge products. The esteemed team is headed by Dr. Melvin S. Sarsale, Project Staff Level 3, Dr. Mary Ann Jill R. Ramirez, Project Staff Level 2, and Mr. Jay K. Mahusay, Science Research Specialist I.
Key university officials attended the inauguration ceremony, spearheaded by University President Dr. Jude A. Duarte, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, and Director of the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office Engr. Khorina O. Aguilar. Additionally, key representatives from the Technology Transfer and Promotion Division of DOST-PCAARRD, including Director Noel A. Catibog, Assistant Director Ms. Lucy A. Lastimosa, Ms. Dannah Jean C. Mendoza, and Mr. Michael Angelo B. Badillo, were present.
The new facility symbolizes a robust partnership to foster innovation, protect intellectual property, and promote the commercialization of technologies and knowledge products derived from government-funded research and development activities. The establishment of the IP-TBM office supports the Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement Program, which aims to boost the agricultural and aquaculture sectors in the region. SLSU is positioned to become a leader in translating research outcomes into tangible benefits for the community and the economy by providing a dedicated space for intellectual property management and technology commercialization.
With the support of DOST-PCAARRD and the unwavering dedication of SLSU, the IP-TBM Office is set to make significant contributions to regional development and beyond, underscoring the critical role of intellectual property management in transforming research into real-world solutions that address local and global challenges.
