Strategies on Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion
At Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), we cultivate a learning and working environment where individuals of all genders, cultures, abilities, and socioeconomic backgrounds are valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.
Through its Gender and Development (GAD) responsive programs and initiatives, SLSU promotes equity by ensuring equal access to opportunities in education, research, employment, and leadership.
The University provides support systems such as gender-sensitivity trainings, inclusive facilities, mentoring and leadership development programs, as well as student and employee support services.
GAD Office and Childcare Center
The Southern Leyte State University officially established its GAD Office and Childcare Center on December 16, 2022. Since its official opening, it has become a safe space for the SLSU Faculty, Staff, and Students who are lactating or pregnant mothers, or parents with children 6 years old and below.
The facility is equipped with amenities designed specifically for childcare and family needs, such as diaper-changing tables, nap spaces, and play areas. It is open Monday through Friday and it is accessible exclusively to nursing mothers or parents within the SLSU community.
GAD Initiatives
The Gender and Development (GAD) Initiatives aim to promote gender equality, inclusivity, and empowerment among all members of the academic and local community.
These initiatives are anchored on the principles of respect, equity, and equal opportunity, ensuring that gender perspectives are integrated into institutional policies, programs, and activities.
SDG 5 Initiatives
In line with the LUPAD, SLSU vision of Learning, Unity, Progress, Achievement, and Dynamism, the university upholds Sustainable Development Goal 5: Achieve Gender Equality and Empower All Women and Girls as one of its core institutional commitments.
By advancing SDG 5, SLSU champions inclusivity and empowerment, ensuring that every Mighty Kingfisher—both men and women—can soar equally toward progress and leadership in a just and equitable community.
