Because of yoU We Grow: SLSU-MC joins PCSA through Tree Planting, Growing and Zumba
On September 18, 2024, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) successfully held the activity “Because of yoU We Grow: Tree Planting, Growing and Zumba Activities” in celebration of the 124th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary. Organized by the University Human Resource Management & Development Office, with the help of the National Service Training Program – Civic Welfare Training Service unit and students, the activity took place at the SLSU Multi-Purpose Court. This, following the Linggo ng Malasakit sa Kalikasan as the theme for the third week of the Civil Service Commission’s month-long celebration of the PCSA.
This activity aimed to promote environmental stewardship while encouraging a healthier lifestyle among participants. Employees engaged in tree planting activities that supported the university’s green initiatives, raising ecological awareness and commitment to sustainability. The Zumba session added an enjoyable element, allowing participants to improve their physical fitness in a lively setting. Employees actively participated in planting trees, taking responsibility for their care, and building lasting connections with their colleagues.
As part of the activity, employees were encouraged to geotag their trees, with the assistance of the University’s Geographic Information System (GIS) Technology and SLSU YouthMappers, and to care for their planted trees in the coming months. A growth assessment is scheduled for March 7, 2025, during SLSU's 21st Anniversary celebration, where employees with well-maintained trees will be recognized. Participants were also asked to post pictures of their trees using the hashtag #SLSUTreeForTheFuture to promote the activity.
The “Because of yoU We Grow: Tree Planting, Growing and Zumba Activities” highlights SLSU’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the well-being of its employees. By participating in this event, employees have taken an important step toward nurturing a greener future for both the university and the surrounding community.
