Leveling Up: SLSU's Digital Library Dive with ODILO & WILEY!
On August 21, 2024, the Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) community gathered virtually for a significant orientation session on the use and access of the ODILO Digital Library and WILEY Digital Books. The event, attended by the entire faculty and library staff, was held via Zoom webinar, emphasizing the university's commitment to advancing digital education.
Dr. Constantino Medilo Jr., Vice President for Academic Affairs, delivered the opening message. He highlighted the critical importance of having access to robust digital databases like ODILO and WILEY. Dr. Medilo emphasized that these resources would greatly aid faculty members in developing comprehensive syllabi, thereby enhancing the overall academic experience at SLSU.
Following this, Ms. Geonalyn Sumalinog, RL, articulated the purpose of the orientation. She emphasized the need for faculty and staff to be well-versed in using these platforms to maximize their potential and ensure a smooth transition to digital learning.
The event continued with a short message from Ms. Elvira Lapuz, University Librarian at the University of the Philippines - Diliman. She set the stage for the day’s first speaker by stressing the importance of digital literacy in modern education.
Mr. Carlos Eclevia, Senior Manager for Academic Learning at WILEY Philippines, then took the virtual stage. He shared his expertise on the WILEY platform, introducing its key features and demonstrating how users can effectively utilize these tools for academic and research purposes.
Next, Ms. Kranz Gale Serino, Customer Success representative from ODILO, discussed the SoLeySU Learning platform, which is currently being used by SLSU students and faculty. Ms. Serino provided a thorough recap of the platform's features and offered a step-by-step guide on how to access and navigate it. She also addressed frequently asked questions from the audience, ensuring that participants felt confident in their ability to use the platform smoothly.
The orientation successfully equipped SLSU's faculty and staff with the knowledge and tools needed to fully utilize ODILO and WILEY digital resources. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the university's journey towards embracing digital learning, ensuring that both educators and students have access to the resources they need to succeed in the modern academic landscape.
