Collab Goals: NUTRINET Program Brings SLSU and DOST-FNRI Together for Epic Knowledge Sharing!
Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) proudly hosted the NUTRINET: Enhancing Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing program earlier today at the SLSU Mini Theater. The event, which emphasized the importance of partnership and information sharing between the Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) and SLSU, gathered key stakeholders from various faculties and departments.
The program commenced with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, followed by the DOST Hymn, the DOST-FNRI Hymn, and the Southern Leyte State University Hymn. The audience, comprising selected students and faculty members from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Technology-Vocational Education, and Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, participated in the solemn opening ceremony.
Dr. Jude A. Duarte, President of SLSU, warmly welcomed the participants and highlighted the significant impact of the partnership between DOST-FNRI and the university. His message underscored the mutual benefits that can be derived from such collaborations, particularly in advancing research and development in food and nutrition.
Mr. Salvador R. Serrano, Supervising Science Research Specialist of DOST-FNRI, followed with an insightful message that provided an overview of DOST and DOST-FNRI. He detailed the advantages that partner institutions like SLSU can gain from their collaboration with DOST-FNRI, including access to cutting-edge research, resources, and technologies.
Ms. Geonalyn Sumalinog, College Librarian I of SLSU Library-Learning Commons, then took the stage to introduce the esteemed attendees. Her introduction paved the way for the series of informative discussions that followed.
The program featured four key presentations:
1. DOST-FNRI's Food and Nutrition Information Resource Station (FIRSt) by Mr. Dexter Y. De Leon, Senior Science Research Specialist of DOST-FNRI, which showcased the essential resources available for research and information dissemination in food and nutrition.
2. DOST-FNRI National Nutrition Survey Data by Mr. Kim Irvin T. Protacio, Science Research Specialist II of DOST-FNRI, where the latest national nutrition survey data was presented, offering valuable insights into the nutritional status of Filipinos.
3. DOST-FNRI Food Technologies and Innovations by Ms. Maja Bethzaida S. Decena, which highlighted the latest advancements in food technologies and innovations developed by DOST-FNRI.
4. A presentation by Ms. Geanrose L. Colonia, Director of Learning Commons and Library Services, which explored the library resources and facilities available to the patrons and the best practices that is doen diligently for following the standards of its operation.
The program concluded with an open forum, allowing attendees to engage with the speakers and delve deeper into the topics discussed. The event wrapped up with closing remarks from Dr. Annabelle M. Hufalar, Vice President for Student Affairs and Services, who expressed gratitude to all participants and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration.
Ms. Kryztalhyn Mae R. Dilag, Science Research Specialist II of DOST-FNRI, skillfully moderated the entire program, ensuring a smooth flow of events.
Following the program, DOST-FNRI personnel enjoyed a tour of the SLSU Library-Learning Commons, further solidifying the connection between the institutions and setting the stage for future collaborations.
