CHTM commences Crafting of Sustainable Tourism Development Plan for LGU Malitbog Project
The College of Hospitality and Tourism Management has inked partnership with the Local Government of Malitbog through a Memorandum of Agreement to work on the extension project “Malitbog, Southern Leyte Sustainable Tourism Development Plan (TDP) Crafting.” The project aims to formulate a Local TDP which would enhance the LGU’s capability to administer and monitor tourism activities, as well as coming up with tourism policies and regulations.
In this connection, the implementation of the project formally commenced last February 16, 2024 with situational analysis activity. It was attended by different stakeholders and counterparts from the Municipal Tourism Office and Municipal Planning Office of LGU Malitbog. The activity intends to gather baseline data relevant in the crafting of the TDP.
A Tourism Rapid Assessment was also conducted through tourism site visit and assessment. The team evaluated the identified tourism sites, attractions, and destinations that will be included in the TDP. This shows the great potential of the municipality for tourism.
Succeeding activities for the project will follow in the coming months. This will include a seminar-writeshop on the crafting of the local TDP. With the project aiming for inclusivity, participants from different sectors such as the LGU, Barangay Officials, Business Sectors and other interested parties are expected to attend.
This initiative of the college is aligned with the Research Agenda of the university and the SDGs of the UN.
