SLSU and LGU Limasawa Join Forces for Project AMUMA to Boost Financial Literacy
On August 7, 2024, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Limasawa held a virtual signing ceremony for a new initiative called Project AMUMA (Advancing Monetary Understanding and Management). The event, conducted via Zoom, marked the beginning of a collaborative effort to enhance financial literacy and promote agripreneurship among local farmers and fishermen.
Project AMUMA aims to improve the financial and entrepreneurial skills of marginalized communities in Southern Leyte, including Limasawa, Tomas Oppus, Libagon, San Ricardo, and Macrohon. The program will offer training in Financial Literacy and Agripreneurship to help boost incomes and living standards. The goal is to reach 10,000 individuals, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals such as #1: No Poverty; #2: Zero Hunger; #4: Quality Education; #8: Decent Work & Economic Growth; and #5: Gender Equality.
Key attendees at the MOA signing included Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services (RIES) at SLSU; Hon. Melchor P. Petracorta, Municipal Mayor of Limasawa; and other prominent figures from both SLSU and the Limasawa community.
Mayor Petracorta expressed his full support for Project AMUMA, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring the project's success and offering assistance as needed.
Dr. Sy, representing University President Dr. Jude A. Duarte, shared enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its potential to significantly benefit the people of Limasawa and set a positive example for other municipalities in the province.
The signing of this MOA represents a major milestone in promoting economic resilience and driving sustainable development across Limasawa and its neighboring communities.
