SLSU FAS launches Effective Parenting for Young Mothers/Parents And Livelihood Project
Southern Leyte State University, through its Faculty of Arts and Sciences, has launched an impactful extension activity program in Maasin City, Southern Leyte. Spearheaded by Dr. Elvie D. Duran, a senior faculty member, the initiative, titled "Effective Parenting for Young Mothers/Parents and Livelihood Project," aims to drive community development in Barangay Bacul 1.
The program featured two main components: Knowledge Enhancement on Responsible Parenthood and Training and Production of Laundry Liquid Detergent. The first activity, focusing on responsible parenthood, took place on May 10 and 15, 2023. During these sessions, faculty members including Dr. Elvie Duran, Lucia Estella Grace Abaa, Lourna Acaso, and Andres Hinayas delivered engaging lectures as part of a seminar workshop. Ms. Geraldine Abella coordinated the event with assistance from Mr. Carlou Ampo and Mr. Roselo Caduldulan, who facilitated the smooth execution of the workshop.
The second phase of the program, conducted on May 23 and 30, 2023, provided hands-on training in laundry liquid detergent production. Led by Ms. Adel Grace Gaudicos, a Chemistry expert, the training equipped participants with essential skills for manufacturing their own detergent. Ms. Geraldine Abella and Mr. Carlou Ampo coordinated and facilitated this segment, ensuring an effective learning experience.
The project culminated in a celebratory event, highlighting the accomplishments of the participants and marking the successful completion of the training. This initiative not only enhanced the parenting skills of young mothers and parents but also empowered them with practical skills for economic self-sufficiency, demonstrating a significant contribution to community development in Southern Leyte.
