Kalidad sa SLSU: Elevating Excellence through ISO 9001:2015 Audit Training

From March 25 to 26, 2025, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) demonstrated its commitment to continuous improvement through "Kalidad sa SLSU: An ISO 9001:2015 Audit Training." The training gathered members of the Internal Quality Audit Team from the university's six campuses, showcasing a unified effort toward quality assurance. Facilitated by Ms. Merian J. Domingo of SOCOTEC Certification Philippines, Inc., this two-day initiative armed participants with vital knowledge and practical skills to conduct effective internal audits.
The training commenced with an inspiring message from the University President, Dr. Jude A. Duarte, emphasizing the significance of ISO certification, accreditation, and Philippine Quality Award (PQA) recognitions. According to Dr. Duarte, these accolades serve as badges of excellence, affirming the university's dedication to maintaining global standards and fostering continual growth.
Participants engaged in five immersive workshops, which simulated real-life audit scenarios. From drafting audit plans and programs to conducting audits, identifying findings, and performing closing meetings, the training equipped attendees with hands-on experience. Mr. Reymark M. Cativo, BAC Secretariat of the Main Campus, described the simulation as remarkably realistic, underscoring the effectiveness of the activity. The rigorous exercises not only prepared the participants for actual audits but also fostered collaboration and shared learning across campuses.
The event concluded with the Vice President for Administration and Finance, Dr. Dewoowoogen P. Baclayon, formally closing the training, which was spearheaded by the Office of the Quality Assurance Director. This milestone reflects SLSU's unwavering commitment to excellence and its dedication to becoming a paragon of quality education in the region.
This training initiative aligns with multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By improving operational efficiency and governance through ISO standards, SLSU contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education, ensuring that the institution delivers high-quality learning environments. Moreover, by emphasizing continuous improvement and capacity-building, it supports SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, fostering innovation in institutional processes. Lastly, the emphasis on collaborative efforts and shared expertise promotes SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, highlighting the power of partnerships in achieving global standards and sustainable development.
