SLSU - MCC conducts Project Monitoring, Evaluation for SHIELDS extension project
The Project Monitoring and Evaluation for the extension project titled “Safe, Healthy, and Inclusive Environment and Learning Development in Schools” was successfully conducted by the Southern Leyte State University- Maasin City Campus on March 13, 2024 at Maasin Central School. The monitoring team, composed of Ms. Adelfa C. Diola, SRS II and Ms. Lelie Lou Bacalla, Head of Monitoring and Evaluation, evaluated and assessed the progress and accomplishment of the project led by Dr. Jonathan J. Palco. The project aims to ensure the adoption and implementation of Child Protection Policy concepts and fundamentals in schools, capacitate teachers and school heads in handling bullying cases and violence in school, and develop Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials related to Child Protection Policy.
During the monitoring and evaluation, the participants, composed of Ms. Maria Lyn L. Tanquezon, Ms. Liezel C. Jurban, Ms. Leziel M. Yan, Ms. Mirasol M. Manlimos, Ms. May Bethzaida, and Ms. Amor Abando, were assessed on how far the project has impacted the teaching and management of DepEd Maasin City Division, and towards the students. The participants shared that the project was beneficial and that the issues or cases from their respective schools were lessened, and their CPP was strengthened compared to before. They expressed gratitude to SLSU-MCC for conducting the project SHIELDS as they were able to share the ideas and knowledge which they gained from the training.
The monitoring and Evaluation process concluded with the Project Leader, Dr. Jonathan J. Palco, sharing how the project collaboration started, highlighting that the project was their output of their research when he was still in DepEd and had collaborated with his colleagues before he transferred to SLSU. He found out that it was beneficial and aligned with the agenda of the campus. During the pandemic, he reached out to the SGOD Chief, and he was challenged on the implementation since it will be conducted in a virtual manner. However, he did not give up on the project, which he believed could be implemented and realized. He expressed his gratitude for the support of the Campus Director, Dr. Frederick C. Aniga, Head of the RIES Office, Dr. Magdaleno T. Samaco, Jr., Extension Coordinator, Ms. Juvenal Flores-Sumaya, esteemed colleagues, and partner agency, DepEd Maasin City Division, without whom the project would not have been successfully implemented.
