SLSU's BARGO officially launches Catering Services
On September 9, 2024, SLSU’s Business & Resource Generation Office under the management of Engr. Cris Vincent Ranque, BARGO Director officially launched its Catering Services. Approved by the Board of Regents on June 6, 2024, through BOR Resolution No. 54 S. 2024, this initiative aims to provide hands-on experience for students while contributing to Southern Leyte State University's (SLSU) income-generating projects (IGPs).
The BARGO Catering Services serves as a practical laboratory for students in the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) and Bachelor in Industrial Technology (BIT) – Food Preparation and Service Technology programs. Students under the supervision of Ms. Roxanne Cejas, Restaurant Project Manager are involved in various operational aspects such as food preparation, serving, purchasing, and inventory, equipping them with valuable entrepreneurial skills.
The need for this initiative stems from SLSU's growing internal and external food service demands. In 2023, the university processed over Php2.5 million worth of food service requests, with external clients also renting facilities for events. This catering service capitalizes on these opportunities, maximizing university resources while addressing market demands.
The launch event was graced by distinguished guests, including University President Dr. Jude A. Duarte and Vice President for Administration and Finance, Dr. Dewoowoogen P. Baclayon, along with the BARGO staff. The event commenced with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting led by the President and the Vice President, symbolizing the official start of operations for the new catering services. Their opening remarks emphasized the importance of this initiative in providing valuable real-world experience to students and supporting the university's financial goals.
This initiative is set to fulfill the twin goals of SLSU’s income-generating projects: to create revenue while fostering practical learning experiences for its students. Through this Catering Services, the university not only maximizes its assets but also prepares its students for future entrepreneurial success.
