SLSU, LGU Saint Bernard Forge Partnership for Project AMUMA
On July 22, 2024, at the ABC Hall in Saint Bernard, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Saint Bernard formalized their collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for Project AMUMA (Advancing Monetary Understanding and Management).
Project AMUMA is aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): No Poverty (#1), Zero Hunger (#2), Quality Education (#4), Decent Work & Economic Growth (#8), and Gender Equality (#5). This initiative aims to boost financial literacy and promote "agripreneurship" among marginalized farmers and fishermen. By providing comprehensive Financial Literacy and Agripreneurship Training, the project seeks to increase income and enhance the quality of life within these communities.
The MOA signing was marked by the presence of several key figures, including Dr. Jude A. Duarte, University President; Hon. Edito L. Mulig, Municipal Mayor of Saint Bernard; Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services (RIES); Erma K. Capilitan, Municipal Agriculturist; and Dr. Wade C. Lim, Campus Director of SLSU-Hinunangan Campus. Additional notable members from both SLSU-Hinunangan and the Saint Bernard community also attended.
Dr. Jude A. Duarte expressed his strong commitment to the project, calling it a groundbreaking opportunity to uplift the region’s underserved communities. He praised the partnership with LGU Saint Bernard as a powerful example of how collaboration can drive significant, positive change across Southern Leyte.
The MOA signing highlights a strong commitment from both SLSU and the local government to advance the financial and entrepreneurial skills of farmers and fishermen. This collaboration is poised to foster sustainable development and economic resilience within the community, reflecting a robust support system and a shared dedication to achieving success.
