SLSU, HUTECH Cultivate Student Leaders for a Borderless World Through Global Leadership Convergence Conference
Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), conducted Global Leadership Convergence: Cultivating Leaders for a Borderless World on March 3, 2025, at the Ballroom of Hotel de SLSU. It is a lecture-based conference organized by the SLSU KF21 Ambassadors to provide an avenue for the student leader organizations on navigating cross-cultural leadership in a globalized era. The convergence seeks to develop leaders who can thrive in multicultural settings and embrace digital transformation.
Dr. Marie Khul C. Langub, Vice President for Student and Auxiliary Services (SAS), welcomed the guests from HUTECH, as well as the students and faculty of SLSU in attendance.
Ms. Vo Thuy Thanh Tam, MBA, led the discussion on cross-cultural leadership, highlighting its insights, challenges, and recommendations. This was followed by an online presentation from Ms. Nguyen Nhu Quynh Doan, MBA, who discussed how cross-cultural leadership enhances skills in fostering connections and understanding among leaders.
An open forum followed, where Ms. Vo Thuy Thanh Tam, MBA, was asked about the core principles of cross-cultural leadership and its relevance in today’s globally competitive world.
"It is important to respect differences, keep an open mind, and show empathy," she responded.
Meanwhile, Dr. Nguyen Luu Thanh Tan, Vice Dean at HUTECH, emphasized that there are no fixed principles of cross-cultural leadership. Instead, he stressed the importance of confidence, emotional intelligence (EQ), and intellectual intelligence (IQ) when engaging with diverse cultural backgrounds.
This initiative directly aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in SDG 4: Quality Education, by providing student leaders with access to global leadership insights and best practices, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through the collaboration between SLSU, HUTECH University, and student organizations which exemplifies strong institutional partnerships aimed at global progress.
As the collaboration between SLSU and HUTECH continues to strengthen, this global convergence conference marks another milestone in building camaraderie and mutual respect.
