SLSU Bontoc Participates in CSC Service Excellence Summit
Administrative Officer (AO) V, Mr. Erwin P. Remojo of Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) – Bontoc Campus, participated in the 2024 Service Excellence Summit for Leaders (SESL) held at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, Lahug, Cebu City on November 13-14, 2024.
Themed, “Leading by Example: Cultivating Wellness and Wellbeing in the Workplace,” organized by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Regional Office VII, #2024SESL brought together more than 900 government leaders and Human Resource Management Practitioners in Eastern Visayas.
#2024SESL provided a valuable platform for participants to enhance their knowledge and competencies in areas such as mental health, wellness, and the latest updates on Civil Service matters.
The summit kicked off with its first session, "Investing in Well-Being: The ROI of Mental Health," presented by Dr. Jacqueline M. Cheung, a psychiatrist. Dr. Cheung highlighted that self-compassion is a key component of self-care. She also emphasized the need to balance personal, professional, relational, emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being to achieve true self-care.
Remojo shared, “I found this session to be both timely and relevant, as it highlighted the importance of self-care in improving mental health, which is a key factor in fostering productive employees.” He continued, “As the head of the administrative and finance department, I will promote an environment conducive to creating a workforce that is engaging, collaborative, and driven.”
Since assuming the role of AO V in SLSU Bontoc on September 1, 2024, Mr. Remojo has played a pivotal role in steering the campus toward its goals. His work is integral to advancing the university's goals, helping to align efforts across departments to support the institution's Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives (VMGO).
Mr. Remojo shared his enthusiasm for the session on “Redesigning the Workplace with Creativity,” presented by Dr. Lionel Joseph T. Sanchez, PIID, an Interior Designer and owner of Sanchez Design Studio, Inc., as well as a member of the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers.
“The techniques and various design configurations, along with the importance of workplace design and ergonomics in boosting office productivity, are insights that we could potentially apply to our campus for future improvements,” he expressed.
As part of his duties, Mr. Remojo leads the execution of strategic initiatives, oversees administrative and financial operations, and works closely with department heads to ensure the seamless implementation of various programs and projects.
A standout session at the event was “Completed Staff Work (CSW): The Secrets of High Flyers,” presented by Atty. Gina A. Crucio, Concurrent Acting Director III of CSC, Regional Office VII. The session emphasized the four essential steps of CSW: Identify and Analyze the Issues, Develop and Assess Options, Coordinate and Resolve, and Present Recommendations.
“Applying CSW helps leaders run SMARTER operations. This approach enables organizations to make decisions swiftly, save valuable time and resources, and develop a more competent and accountable workforce,” Remojo added.
#2024SESL also featured the PASIDUNGOG 2024, which recognized to PRIME-HRM Recognized Agencies, CSC RO VIII Loyalty Awardees, and Regional and National Awardees of the Honor Awards Program.
CSC Assistant Commissioner, Atty. Judith D. Chicano reminded the participants that public service is a privilege, and as such, public servants are expected to be productive, effective, and efficient.
“The summit was packed with valuable insights and recommendations that I look forward to sharing with SLSU Bontoc to help the management achieve the goals of the institution,” Mr. Remojo said.
To cap off the event, updates on Civil Service Matters and the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Standards for Public Sector” was presented by Atty. Judith D. Chicano, the Assistant Commissioner of the CSC.
2024 Service Excellence Summit for Leaders reaffirmed the importance of leadership, innovation, and self-care in building a productive and accountable workforce, ensuring that public servants are well-equipped to meet the challenges ahead.
