SLSU-Tomas Oppus RIES Holds In-House Review and Evaluation

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) - Tomas Oppus Campus successfully conducted its In-House Research, Innovation, and Extension Services (RIES) Review and Evaluation, showcasing faculty-led research and extension services. The panel of evaluators included Dr. Hermabeth Bendulo, Dr. Mark Galdo and Dr. Marvin Daguplo.
The morning session centered on the presentation of various research proposals addressing themes such as English teachers’ experiences, differentiated pedagogical strategies, teaching internship models, faculty compensation, protest literature, trends in language education, and frameworks for identifying at-risk students. In the afternoon, completed and ongoing studies were shared, including research on graduate employability in the arts and health fields, the challenges of implementing mother tongue-based instruction in rural areas, and initiatives supporting mainstreamed learners with special needs. The session concluded with updates on the ARAL 1.0 and 2.0 projects, aimed at enhancing student learning and academic recovery.
The evaluators commended the quality and relevance of the papers and encouraged researchers to pursue publication and implementation. Overall, the in-house review marked another significant step in strengthening SLSU-Tomas Oppus’s culture of research and extension.
The research projects presented during the in-house review align with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include SDG 4: Quality Education, through studies focusing on differentiated instruction, at-risk learners, and international teaching models; SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, as seen in research on graduate employability and faculty satisfaction; and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, with efforts aimed at inclusive education for children with special needs and the empowerment of rural-based educators. Furthermore, the international collaboration with UNISDA supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, demonstrating the university’s dedication to building global research networks.
