SLSU Hosts Seminar on Anti-Insurgency Education and VAWC Awareness
Maasin City, Southern Leyte – Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) Maasin City Campus, recently held a seminar, with the theme “Vigilance in Action: Strengthening Campus Safety with Anti-Insurgency Education and Philippine National Police Orientation on Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC). The event was held on November 22, 2024, at SLSU-Maasin City Campus PE Hall.
The seminar aimed to enhance campus security and raise awareness about violence against women and children. The program started with the student registration, followed by an invocation, and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and SLSU Hymn.
Mrs. Aster Lynn P. Reoma, esteemed Head of Student Auxiliary Services, graciously delivered a warm and insightful welcome address. Mister Danilo A. Laguitan–Presidential Decree from the Department of the Interior and Local Government - Southern Leyte, gave his message and words of gratitude for having the said event.
For the seminar proper, Cpl. Ritchel C. Panal provided insights on violence against women and children, offering strategies for prevention and response. With Cpl. Panal's first words, "Babae kami, hindi babae lang", captured the students' attention and further delved into the sharing of the fundamental rights of every woman and child, alongside the laws implemented to support these rights.
CPT Christopher B. Tataro– a representative from the Philippine National Police (PNP), secondly discussed anti-insurgency education and security protocols. "Kayong mga kabataan ang pag-asa nang bayan. Kayong mga kabataan ang pondasyon ng bukas." This sentiment was echoed by CPT Tataro, who added, "No to communism, yes to peace!", which was the ending statement for the program.
The event was organized by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and was well attended by the first-year students, Dr. Lucia Stella Grace A. Abaa (NSTP-CWTS Coordinator), Mr. Rannie M. Sumacot (BPA 1 NSTP Instructor), Miss Mariecar R. Paloma (BSSW 1 NSTP Instructor), and staff.
