RAC SLSU launches Project L.A.M.B.I.G.I.T
On November 23, 2024, the Rotaract Club of Southern Leyte State University (RAC SLSU) launched its new initiative, Project L.A.M.B.I.G.I.T. (Linking Aspiring Mentors, Bringing Industries Aiming Growth and Innovative Training), to facilitate partnerships between university departments and industries within Region 8. The university can offer more localized, affordable, and closer-to-home on-the-job training options through this project. Project L.A.M.B.I.G.I.T. envisions reducing costs while students still gain relevant experience in their respective fields of discipline.
The first item on the Project LAMBIGIT itinerary was to link SLSU with the Centre for International Education—British School (CIE). Ms. Dominica Clarina R. Masubay, Head Teacher, Ms. Glaze Marie E. Lora, and Mr. Daniel M. Abella represented CIE-Tacloban during the meeting. Both parties discussed potential collaboration areas, particularly in developing a student internship program. Following the meeting with the CIE representatives, the group visited various hotel establishments and cafes to explore opportunities for Hospitality and Tourism Management Programs, including Rosevinel Hotel, XYZ Hotel, and Espazio, a local café that features vintage items. The visits have so far garnered positive feedback from local industries.
Leading the initiative for Project L.A.M.B.I.G.I.T. was the University President, Dr. Jude A. Duarte, accompanied by Dr. Sybill Krizzia G. Ledesma, RAC SLSU Adviser, and Ms. Jillian Grace D. Burila, RAC SLSU President. Key officials included Dr. Clemente H. Cobilla, SLSU-Tomas Oppus Campus Director; Dr. Leslie Elisa S. Cobilla, Student Teaching Supervisor for English at SLSU-Tomas Oppus; Ms. Bernadith A. Radaza, OJT Coordinator for Business Administration at SLSU-Tomas Oppus; Mr. Danilo S. Escobido, Head of the Accountancy Department at SLSU-San Juan; Ms. Ma. Gia Caro, OJT Coordinator for Hospitality and Tourism Management at SLSU-Main Campus; and Ms. Shyn Luege Villaflores, representing the ELIA Office.
Project L.A.M.B.I.G.I.T. aims to improve access to quality education while promoting economic development in the community. It supports SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. By linking educational institutions and industries, this project also contributes to SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
