SLSU GAD Office and Childcare Center, a safe space for Faculty, Staff, and Students’ Families
The Southern Leyte State University officially established its GAD Office and Childcare Center on December 16, 2022. Since its official opening, it has become a safe space for the SLSU Faculty, Staff, and Students who are lactating or pregnant mothers, or parents with children 6 years old and below.
The facility is equipped with amenities designed specifically for childcare and family needs, such as diaper-changing tables, nap spaces, and play areas. It is open Monday through Friday and it is accessible exclusively to nursing mothers or parents within the SLSU community. The center also allows visitors to observe for 15-30 minute, this time limit is imposed to accommodate others. The center's design highlights a welcoming, inclusive environment, making families feel supported as they balance academic or work commitments with family responsibilities.
This is what the former President, Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes, envisioned for Southern Leyte State University, which is to have a place that offers child-caring environment that facilitate the children's learning while their parents are at work.
Indeed, SLSU GAD Office and Childcare Center is a prime example that shows SLSU’s dedication to foster a family-centered and inclusive campus through its thoughtful resources and facilities, aligning with SDG No. 5, Gender Equality and SDG No. 10, Reduced Inequalities.
