SLSU Empowers Micro-Entrepreneurs through Customer Service Training Under SUMMER-LUP Project

In its strive to promote economic resilience and empower local entrepreneurs, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) successfully conducted a training titled "Excellence in Customer Handling and Frontline Service" on July 10, 2025, at FPST 101, Food Tech Building, SLSU Main Campus. The activity forms part of the university's flagship extension initiative, the SUMMER-LUP: Skills Upgrading and Mentorship to Micro-Entrepreneurs for Economic Resilience – Livelihood Uplift Project, within the Faculty of Technology.
Designed to enhance customer engagement, problem-solving, and service etiquette, the training gathered micro-entrepreneurs, local vendors, and beneficiaries of livelihood programs from nearby municipalities to equip them with essential skills for frontline business operations.
Mr. Florencio Payac, a seasoned expert in customer relations and public service, led the interactive session. Through dynamic lectures, hands-on exercises, and role-playing simulations, participants learned how to confidently manage customer interactions, resolve conflicts effectively, and embody professionalism in service delivery.
In her inspirational message, Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services, emphasized the university's commitment to inclusive growth and community empowerment.
"Our mission goes beyond providing knowledge; we build confidence, refine potential, and support local economies through meaningful engagement," she remarked.
The training culminated with Ms. Adelfa C. Diola, Director of Extension Services, delivering the closing remarks. She commended the active participation of the attendees and reiterated the importance of providing quality service in ensuring a sustainable livelihood and fostering customer loyalty. Also encouraged participants to apply their learnings to strengthen their businesses or in their future endeavors.
The SUMMER-LUP project reflects SLSU's unwavering dedication to fostering entrepreneurial resilience and inclusive development across Southern Leyte. As the project continues to roll out specialized trainings, more communities are expected to benefit from the university's transformative extension programs.
