BIT stud ranks 2nd in regional poster making tilt
Michael M. Tejara, a student of Bachelor of Industrial Technology (BIT) major in Architectural Drafting of Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) Main Campus, is the second placer of the regional virtual poster making contest that was held on August 25, 2021.
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office VIII conducted this event in partnership with the Council of Deans and Educators in Business—Region 8 (CODEB-8) and Council of Economics Educators—Region 8 (CECON-8) in commemoration of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation’s (ASEAN) 54th Founding Anniversary with a theme “PADYAK! Moving forward, claiming victory for Philippine Higher Education (PHE) in ASEAN community.”
As prize, Tejara will receive Php 5,000 cash and a certificate of recognition from CHED RO8.
Tejara explained that the work he made shows that the Philippine Higher Education (PHE) is competitive and determined in claiming victory. “The current situation that we are in has been depicted on my piece in which Padyak is behind the triumph,” he added.
Tejara explained that at the center of his art, the ASEAN logo can be seen which is a combination of a “salakot” and medal. It is carried by a person who is striving to fulfill his goals and purpose by being focused despite the adversities in life.
“As illustrated, the road which is in form of an arrow that has different flags (members of ASEAN) implies that every stakeholder of PHE is never giving up and keeps on moving forward despite the many obstacles and hindrances that came and may come in the future. This is depicted by the Padyak on my piece,” Tejara clarified.
SMART is also implied in Tejara’s artwork which stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound, highlighting to support and to set out clearly what we wanted to achieve. “The other side showcases PHE’s exploration on new technologies and sciences that will aid in the learning process and for the betterment of the country,” he expounded.
“The top of the medal where we can see the bulb painted by the two people indicates that the leaders of PHE are making significant actions to provide quality services for the students’ welfare and education and to help those who are struggling financially. The white dove at the top symbolizes hope in higher education despite the pandemic. On a similar note, students would really achieve their dreams and aspirations in life through the PHE, which will then contribute in nation building and in the progress of the ASEAN community and the whole world,” Tejara described.
Niel John Q. Ventura, also a BIT major in Architectural Drafting student, competed in the same contest but failed to make it to the top three.
Rey G. Comabig, the coach of Tejara and Ventura, is grateful for the support they received from the university as they participated in the regional competition. “I am really thankful to the Supreme Student Council (SSC) for the financial assistance given to the students as well as to the College of Computer Studies and Information Technology through Dr. Alex C. Bacalla for allowing us to use their audio-visual room with a stable internet connection,” Comabig said.
On a phone interview, Comabig explained that as a newly designated head of Student and Development Services Office, Tejara’s victory means a lot to him and to the university. “This means that we will form more interest clubs so more talents and skills of students will be honed and the university will have brighter years to come,” Comabig positively explained.
SLSU also participated in the regional virtual essay writing competition through the participation of Wella Mae T. Engcoy of SLSU-Hinunangan Campus and Cristy T. Angco of SLSU- San Juan Campus.
