SLSU-CAALS holds Philippine CSC Anniversary, Students’ Day
Southern Leyte State University- College of Aquatic and Applied Life Sciences (SLSU-CAALS) opened the celebration of the joint 117th Philippine Civil Service Commission Anniversary (CSC) and Students’ Day on September 20, 2017 with a three-kilometer fun run at 4:30 AM around the vicinity of Bontoc, Southern Leyte.
Both employees and students of the university participated in the fun run. The Campus Dean, Dr. Dewoowoogen Baclayon won 3rd place in the employees’ category.
The program started at 8:00 AM where the message of Civil Service Commission (CSC) Chairman Dir. Alicia dela Rosa- Bala was aired. The message serves as inspiration and a reminder for government employees that being public servants, they are accountable to the public.
This year’s theme “Tugon sa Hamon ng Pagbabago: Malasakit ng Lingkod Bayan” urges everyone to be vigilant to what is happening in our society and government. To be brave to denounce with what is unlawful and to be supportive with what we felt is right in our quest for change.
One of the highlights of the celebration was the confirmation of the SIDLAK Award by the Supreme Student Council (SSC) to the faculty who were the students’ favorites. SIDLAK Awardees were: Mr. Noel E. Celeste, Mr. Carlo M. Cabillo and Ms. Maria Fe Novere E. Amor.
Another award given was the Loyalty Award based on the length of service of faculty and staff. Recipients of the award were: Ms. Maria Emelee A. Bascug and Ms. Grace Joy L. Acub.
The celebration was made more enjoyable and excited with the parlor games played between the faculty and staff versus the students wherein the latter evolved as winners. What made the celebration more special for the whole studentry was the catered food serve for them during lunchtime.
