SLSU Recognition Ceremony commends excellent students
SLSU, Sogod— Around 300 students were honored on March 18 during the annual Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) Recognition Ceremony in SLSU Multi-purpose Court.
This annual event seeks to honor the students who excelled in academic and extra-curricular activities. Dr. Juanita Costillas, Dean of undergraduate studies of SLSU, mentioned in her welcome address that this event is held every year to inspire more students to excel in both fields—academic and extra-curricular.
Some of the awards bestowed to the students include academic excellence and leadership award. Students who excelled in their major subjects were also honored during the day.
Moreover, the university also recognized the students who passed the National Competency (NC) Level II. It includes automotive servicing NC II, beauty care NC II, and massage NC II. Mr. Rodrigo A. Lacaba, the provincial Technical Education and Skills Development Authority(TESDA) director, awarded the certificates to NC II passers.
On the same day, students who brought honor to the university during the Regional SCUAA Meet 2015 were also given with medals and certificates.
Furthermore, students with outstanding output in research received medals and certificates. Those were students who excelled in social science research and technology development research.
During the big day, Engr. Paul Niño P. Flores, alumnus of SLSU, inspired more the honorees with his inspirational message on how he became the 6th placer registered master electrician. He also shared to the honorees how he attained success in life.
The ceremony ended with a closing remarks of Dr. Glenn Ampoloquio, Office of the Students Affairs and Services (OSAS) director.
“It was indeed a significant event to us as a student. Being recognized by the university inspired us to do better in our studies,” Sean Eric Tangpos, automotive servicing NC II passer, said with a smile.
