SLSU launches Student Onboarding
The Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) launched its Students Onboarding (SOB) program on Monday, September 28, 2020.
The SOB is a program set to prepare the students for the flexible learning instructions. It is designed for them to address the learning culture required in the new normal.
The SOB has eight (8) Learning Chunks or Modules that the students have to go through. This will prepare them for flexible instruction and will make them comfortable when they embark with the actual class activities.
What’s inside the 8 Learning Chunks?
1. Flexible Learning. It provides flexible learning features, methods, and assessment. The students will appreciate and understand how learning is implemented and adapted to the learning instruction.
2. Computer Basics. It is designed for the students to become successful in packaging their class requirements. They will be able to identify the basic academic tools available in the computer and distinguish the use of these tools for academic purposes. The students will also be able to understand the significance of these tools in completing their academic projects and activities.
3. Acts for Education. This will introduce the students the common application for educational purposes. They will be able to familiarize the available online applications and understand how the students can utilize them for enriching their knowledge with the academic subject requirements.
4. Open Educational Resources (OERs). These are online resources for educational purposes available for free access. The students will be acquainted with the OERs and how they can be utilized for education.
5. Learning Management System Interface in Computers. The students have the opportunity to explore and demonstrate the skills using the learning management system (LMS) interface in computers and laptops. They will be able to understand how the elements, including the resources and activities, can be used for educational purposes.
6. Learning Management System Interface in Alternative Devices. Similar to Learning Chunk No. 5, students may explore and demonstrate the skills using the LMS interface. However, in this particular Learning Chunk, students will be familiarized with the Model LMS in smartphones and tablets.
7. Online Class Netiquette. This gives tips on virtual classes. The students should be able to define and understand the netiquettes, including its rules and guidelines.
8. Ethical Practices for Class Requirements Production. This particular Learning Chunk talks about online cheating and plagiarism, data privacy, and others. The students should be able to define and identify cheating and other forms of intellectual dishonesty. This should remind the students of the ethical practices for class requirements production.
The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in schools shut across the country. Education has changed dramatically, with the distinctive rise of e-learning, whereby teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms. SLSU, in particular, has no residential face-to-face classes for the whole A.Y. 2020-2021. However, SLSU is getting ready for a blended or flexible learning modality.
