SLSU conducts U-wide PATHFit 1 Workshop

In preparation for the upcoming Academic Year 2025–2026, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) conducted a comprehensive three-day university-wide workshop on Physical Activity Towards Health and Fitness 1 (PATHFit 1) with the theme “Strengthening Physical Literacy Across the Campus.” Held on July 28–30, 2025, at the Plenary Hall of the SLSU Main Campus, the workshop brought together PE teachers from all university campuses to align instructional practices and enhance the delivery of physical education.
Dr. Criselyn Sescon, Program Chair of SLSU Tomas Oppus Campus, and Mr. Lourd Ive M. Visbal, Area Chair of the Main Campus, spearheaded the initiative. With the growing emphasis on fitness, wellness, and lifelong health, the workshop aimed to unify the interpretation and implementation of the PATHFit curriculum as prescribed by CHED CMO No. 39, series of 2023. 2021, and to ensure its relevance and responsiveness to students’ needs.
Mr. Lourd Ive M. Visbal opened the technical sessions with an overview of the PATHFit Curriculum, highlighting key elements such as learning outcomes, content standards, and performance assessments. He emphasized the importance of outcome-based education and physical literacy as the core of PATHFit instruction.
Mr. Brian Caban led a session on the walkthrough of PATHFit 1, focusing on stabilization, non-locomotor skills, and assessment of physical activities. His hands-on approach allowed the participants to experience and discuss strategies that support skill acquisition and active engagement among students.
Next, Mr. Archelis Serano tackled locomotor skills, illustrating their developmental importance and practical application in the PATHFit framework. He provided classroom-tested techniques for skill progression and movement integration.
Mr. King Valds Anthony Berame concluded the learning sessions with topics on fitness test development, circuit training, and group demonstrations. He guided the teachers on how to design varied and adaptable training routines suited to different learning environments and student needs.
One of the key highlights of the workshop was the collaborative crafting of a standardized syllabus for PATHFit 1, where PE teachers across campuses worked together to produce a unified course guide. This syllabus integrates learning competencies, content sequencing, teaching-learning activities, and assessment strategies—all anchored in the principles of physical literacy and CMO guidelines.
Throughout the three-day activity, teachers exchanged insights, strategies, and reflections, strengthening inter-campus collaboration and professional growth. The workshop concluded with a plenary session and synthesis, affirming SLSU’s commitment to excellence in physical education and student well-being.
This capacity-building initiative underscores the university’s mission to promote holistic development through quality physical education and to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and motivation for lifelong fitness and health.
