Southern Leyte State University – Maasin City Campus Joins City-Wide Coastal Clean-Up at Espina Boulevard

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) – Maasin City Campus proudly took part in the City-Wide Coastal Clean-Up held on July 30, 2025, along Espina Boulevard. The event brought together the university's administrative staff, along with local government units, civil society organizations, and coastal community stakeholders, in a united effort to clear the shoreline of marine debris and plastic waste.
Spearheading the SLSU delegation were members of the College of Good Governance and Development Studies, who demonstrated their dedication to public service and environmental responsibility. Their active involvement reflected the values of leadership, civic engagement, and social accountability in action. The clean-up was made possible through close coordination with the Maasin City local government’s environmental office, highlighting the strong partnership between the city and the university.
Supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
This initiative directly supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14: Life Below Water, which emphasizes the conservation and sustainable use of oceans and marine resources. By helping remove litter from the coastline, participants contributed to reducing pollution and protecting marine biodiversity.
Additionally, the effort aligns with SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, by promoting a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient coastal environment for both people and wildlife.
Through its active involvement in this clean-up drive, SLSU – Maasin City Campus reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development and community centered initiatives making a real impact on both the environment and the lives of the people it serves.
