The Good, The Beautiful, The Precious 12 years of SLSU
The celebration of the 12th Charter Day Anniversary of the University themed “One University in the Pursuit of Performance Excellence and Accountability” started with a short program at the campus’ multi-purpose hall on March 4, 2016. It was soon followed by a tree-planting activity at the campus’ mini-forest and Zumba activity with the administrators, faculty and support staff. University President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes, in her Opening Speech, praised the SLSU Faculty and Staff for a commendable institutional performance comparable to other SUCs in the country. She said that the University is leading to new strategic directions that are more responsive to the needs of its clientele. She hopes that with these new directions, more employees will commit themselves to embracing change and to support the realization of the university’s aspirations to become ISO-certified institution so that SLSU will be at pace and at par with current global standards and trends.
The Charter Anniversary Program held on March 7, 2015 at SLSU-Bontoc was graced by Justice Raoul C. Creencia of An Waray Partylist as the Guest of Honor and Speaker. To enable the University realize its Charter Anniversary theme,
Justice Creencia said, “a founding anniversary for educational institutions like SLSU is always FULL OF MEANING and SIGNIFICANCE as it gives an opportunity not only to celebrate, not only to look back, not only to reminisce, but also to RE-COMMIT yourselves to the ideals upon which this institution was founded. A perfect moment to RE-CONSECRATE yourselves to the noble calling that made you a part of this great institution.” The birth of SLSU is unique according to our Speaker, “for its birth lies on the fact that several umbilical cords were bound together before they were cut, that it has 5 CAMPUSES BEATING AS ONE.” He also commended the SLSU family for educating the next generation of professionals, of educators, of leaders, of civil servants and of FILIPINOS thus making a historic step towards a direction leading to a better Southern Leyte, a better Region and a better Philippines. As SLSU celebrates its Jade Anniversary, it embodies the “virtues of wisdom, justice, compassion, modesty and courage.” He also encouraged everyone to “find fresh inspiration, to make new frontiers, to take on a challenging and noble task of transforming our young and our youth to be responsive and responsible citizens of this country. May you embody what your anniversary gem symbolize.”
Be a Gem. Be a Jade…. A symbol of the Good, the Beautiful and the Precious.
