SLSU Officials Attend PQA Development Course
University President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes, together with Dr. Frederick Aniga, Dr. Gary Garcia, Dr. Dewoowoogen Baclayon, Dr. Mary Beth Saludsod and Ms. Hazelle V. Asaldo, attended the Application Development Course on Philippine Quality Award at the Development Academy of the Philippines, Ortigas Center, Pasig City last February 16-19, 2016.
The Philippine Quality Award is the centerpiece program of the National Action Agenda for Productivity, the blueprint for the Philippines integrated approach to improve economy-wide productivity during the term of President Fidel V. Ramos in response to the growing challenges of globalization. It was created through Executive Order 448 on October 3, 1997. It was institutionalized on February 28, 2001 through the signing of Republic Act 9013, also known as the Philippine Quality Award Act. The PQA sets a standard of excellence to help Filipino organizations achieve world-class performance and serves as a "template" for competitiveness based on the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM). The opening program started at 9 AM, wherein there was Expectation Setting and Course Overview. Ms Angelica C. Fraginal, a Consultant on Quality and Productivity and a Certified Examiner/ Senior PQA Assessor and serve as a Team Leader for 16 years in PQA, was the Resource Person for said event.
The four-day training was attended by the different organizations from the private and public sectors. The participants went through a series of lectures on the criteria for Performance Excellence, small group discussions, and workshops.
The Philippine Quality Award is the highest level of national recognition for exemplary organizational performance. It encourages private and government organizations to achieve quality excellence.
