Plan. Do. Check. Act.
May 29-30, 2014. Every year the Executive Committee conducts a performance evaluation activity to analyze the efficiency, effectiveness and appropriateness of its curricular programs, projects, strategies and investments. This activity helps university managers identify outcomes of the implemented programs, including unintended outcomes, and establish strategies or interventions that lead to desirable results and ensure that resources are not unnecessarily spent. A twin of performance evaluation is target setting. Setting targets is important to renew commitment of the university to achieve a specific quality or level of service and to continuously improve service delivery.

Engr. Joel T. Guasa, University Planning Officer, spearheads the annual conduct of these activities. This two-day activity incorporates two components, namely, Performance Evaluation Workshop and Target Setting. The first component is an executive planning workshop which consists of the evaluation of the past performance of the university and the incorporation of the experiential inputs and management strategies for actual application to the university’s operation. The second component is target-setting and action planning within SY 2014-2015. The targets laid beforehand indicated in its newly formulated seven-year development plan will be compared against the accomplishments of the university and the respective campuses from which subsequent targets and action plans will be established for implementation during the present school year.
“This action plan will include resource utilization and strategies for implementation in each of the mandated function of the university, namely, instruction, research, extension and production. Through this activity, the extent of change or gap will be determined and analyzed which will be vital to the re-planning and selection of new strategies or alternatives.” Guasa explained.
The EXECOM is composed of the University President, Vice Presidents for Administration & Finance, Academic Affairs and Research Development & Extension, and the Campus Administrators.
Caimito Beach Resort, Maasin City, Southern Leyte is the venue of this year’s performance evaluation activity.
An old adage, “well-planned is half done” implies that planning is only part of the whole, actually doing the work and implementing the plan is the most challenging and important part before organizational goals are achieved and sustained.
