SLSU-TO Partners with MDRRMO for Comprehensive Disaster Preparedness Drills
Southern Leyte State University-Tomas Oppus (SLSU-TO) has teamed up with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of LGU Tomas Oppus and LGU Malitbog to conduct a series of crucial disaster preparedness drills. This initiative aligns with Republic Act 10121, which advocates for a multi-sectoral and community-based approach to disaster risk management through the National Disaster Risk Management Framework.
The drills encompass fire, evacuation, and earthquake exercises. They are designed to ensure that both students and employees of SLSU-TO are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to handle emergencies effectively, thereby reducing risks and enhancing safety on campus.
Both LGU Tomas Oppus and LGU Malitbog have supported these drills by providing expertise and resources. As SLSU-TO continues to advance its disaster preparedness programs, the university exemplifies proactive disaster management. These drills are a vital reminder of the importance of preparedness and the shared responsibility of educational institutions and local governments in ensuring community safety. These efforts also support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 11, which focuses on making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. By investing in disaster preparedness and risk management, SLSU-TO and its partners contribute to building a more resilient community, that aligns with global objectives for sustainable development.
