FAS, FHTM in collab with Library conducts community Outreach Activity in commemorates of World Music Day
On July 13, 2024, the vibrant community of Brgy. Tampoong witnessed a remarkable event as the Faculty of Arts and Science, the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, and the University Library joined forces to celebrate World Music Day with a heartfelt Community Outreach Activity. The program commenced with a heartfelt prayer led by the Brgy. Tampoong SK Chairperson, Honorable Michael Richard Rojo, followed by the powerful rendition of the Philippine National Anthem. Hon. Alejandro Bagares, Brgy. Tampoong Councilor, then extended a warm welcome to all participants, setting a positive tone for the day's events. Representing SLSU, Dr. Aldwin Teves, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science, delivered an inspiring message that emphasized the significance of preserving cultural heritage. He highlighted how cultural heritage impacts the nation, especially the younger and future generations, allowing them to experience and appreciate their roots. Dr. Ruda Palen, Project Leader of IMPACT, outlined the purpose of the activity, paving the way for Dr. Dinah F. Catamco’s enlightening discussion on the overview of Music and Tourism: Promoting Cultural Heritage on a Global Scale. Her insights provided a broader perspective on the intersection of music and tourism in preserving and promoting cultural heritage.
The workshop on Traditional Folk Songs, led by Mr. Jude Boc Canete was a highlight of the event. Participants from Brgy. Tampoong actively engaged in the workshop, and their enthusiastic testimonials underscored the impact and success of the activity. As part two of the event commenced, a successful feeding program brought smiles and joyful laughter to the venue. There were 37 males and 45 females as participants enjoyed a delightful meal, further fostering a sense of community and togetherness. The event concluded with words of gratitude and a closing message from Honorable Michael Richard Rojo, Brgy. Tampoong SK Chairperson, who expressed appreciation for everyone's participation and efforts in making the day a resounding success. This Community Outreach Activity not only celebrated World Music Day but also reinforced the importance of cultural heritage, leaving a lasting impact on all who attended.
