Southern Leyte State University - Maasin City Campus Hosts Onboarding for New Administrative Staff
The Human Resource and Management Office of Southern Leyte State University - Maasin City Campus conducted a New Employees Onboarding (NEO) for its eighteen (18) newly hired administrative staff last June 20, 2024, at the Campus Director’s Conference Room. To kick-start the said activity, Dr. Frederick C. Aniga shared his words of wisdom with the new additions to the SLSU family, highlighting the importance of teamwork and camaraderie in attaining the institution's common goal: to be known as the university that advances knowledge, innovation, and compassion for humanity, creating an inclusive society and a sustainable world. In addition, Dr. Aniga emphasized, “At the heart of our calling is public service. At the core of public service is public trust. Public trust demands and exacts accountability, responsibility, integrity, loyalty, and efficiency.”
To formally start the orientation proper, Ms. Gloreina M. Mercado, HRMO II, gave some insights on the importance of having an onboarding activity. Ms. Mercado further reiterated that this activity would be a great avenue to instill and integrate within the newly hired personnel the vision, mission, core values, and other undertakings of the institution that must be undertaken to achieve its common goal. Furthermore, the said activity also complies with the Civil Service requirement to conduct an onboarding orientation for newly hired employees to familiarize them with the responsibilities attached to their respective positions.
Speakers at the onboarding activity included Mr. Robin Ariel F. Sumaya, Accountant II, who discussed the “Salaries, Wages, and Trace E-System,” followed by Dr. Jonathan J. Palco, who discussed “Basic Office Communication,” which is crucial on a day-to-day basis to avoid misinterpretation and to relay information properly to effectively provide public service not just within internal offices but also outside the institution. Additionally, Ms. Gloreina M. Mercado, Human Resource and Management Officer II, lectured on the “Code of Ethics and Standards for Government Employees.” Later in the day, Ms. Madonna Grace D. Jacobe, Administrative Officer V, discussed “Leave Benefits and Flexi-time.”
To thank the speakers, Ms. Madonna Grace D. Jacobe, Administrative Officer V, and Ms. Gloreina M. Mercado, Human Resource Officer II, presented each speaker with a Certificate of Appreciation for imparting their knowledge, expertise, and for sharing their valuable time, which was pivotal in making the activity a success. To sum it up, Ms. Jacobe conveyed her closing remarks, leaving with a message that calls for cooperation.
