Southern Leyte State U - San Juan initiates outreach activity for elderly in Himos-onan
Southern Leyte State University-San Juan Campus, under the initiative of Dr. Vangilit Retome, Head of BSEd, Dr. Melvin S. Sarsale, Head of Research, Innovation, and Extension Services, and Extension Coordinator Mr. Rogen A. Cagorol, organized a gift-giving event for the elderly residents of Himos-onan, Saint Bernard, Southern Leyte, on June 22, 2024. The event aimed to provide essential supplies and bring joy to the elderly community.
The initiative was made possible through the dedicated efforts of faculty members and volunteers who donated funds and distributed groceries, including food items, personal care products, and other necessities. The team highlighted the importance of supporting the elderly and fostering community spirit through such outreach activities.
This event is part of the university’s ongoing commitment in addressing the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It supports SDG 2: Zero Hunger and SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being by providing essential resources, ensuring access to nutritious food, promoting well-being, supporting marginalized individuals, and fostering community resilience.
The recipients expressed profound gratitude for the thoughtful gestures, which brought smiles and a sense of connection to many. The successful event underscored the vital role that educational institutions can play in enhancing community welfare and supporting vulnerable populations.
