MSU-IIT researchers visit SLSU for environmental research and collaborations
In a significant stride towards advancing environmental research and fostering collaboration, researchers from Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) recently visited Southern Leyte State University (SLSU). The visit is part of a collaborative environmental project led by SLSU and funded by DOST-PCAARD. The MSU-IIT delegates had a brief discussion with Dr. Jude Duarte, the SLSU President; Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, the VP for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services; and Dr. Ian A. Navarrete, the Project Leader and an SLSU Faculty, before they joined the SLSU team in the on-site data collection in the mangrove forests of Bontoc and Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte, on January 23–24, 2024.
The research project, titled "Mangrove-Sediment-Microorganism Carbon Dynamics to Enhance Carbon Dioxide Sequestration Capacity of Mangrove Forests," is particularly relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project, which is primarily aligned with SDG 13 (Climate Action), seeks to mitigate climate change by better understanding the complex carbon dynamics within mangrove ecosystems and SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals). Furthermore, it indirectly contributes to SDGs 15 (Life on Land) and 14 (Life Below Water).
The collaborative efforts between SLSU and MSU-IIT signify a united commitment to addressing environmental challenges and finding innovative solutions for a more sustainable future.
