SLSU-Bontoc welcomes guests: student intern from Germany, Extensionist from SPC-Iligan
In a meeting organized on November 22, 2023, at SLSU-Bontoc Student Services Center (SSC), SLSU-Bontoc through the Marine Biology Society (MBS) welcomed two visitors as guest speakers: Ms. Merrit Kauffer from Universität Leipzig, Germany, and Mr. Bernabe Sanchez, retired Professor from the Mindanao State University-Illigan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT). Ms Kauffer, who studies Cultural Anthropology at the University of Leipzig, enthusiastically shared her experiences as she underwent a 10-week mandatory internship with the Foundation for These-Abled Persons Inc. (FTI). FTI, a Philippine-based non-profit organization that builds on the knowledge and expertise of developing and supporting cooperatives owned and managed by persons with disabilities, partners with SLSU-Bontoc in implementing environment protection-focused projects in Bontoc, Southern Leyte. Mr. Bernabe Sanchez, a retired mechanical engineer from MSU-IIT, asserts that involvement in extension activities is critical to making an institution visible to the community. Thus encouraging students to convert their research into tangible technologies to improve the lives of its service areas. Mr Sanchez works at the Extension Services Office at St. Peter's College (SPC) in Iligan City.
Future partnerships with these two distinguished guests are now in talks.
