Southern Leyte State U joins 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women
Southern Leyte State U kicks off its participation in the 18-day campaign to End Violence Against Women on November 8, 2023, during the flag-raising ceremony. Spearheaded by Ms. Jona Mae Espere, Gender and Development Director, the university was filled with orange- a color representing a future free from violence against women and girls, with the theme, UNITEd for a VAW Free Philippines.
During the celebration, Southern Leyte State U employees and students, led by University President Dr. Jude A. Duarte, pledged their commitment to advocating to end violence against women by affixing their signatures to the commitment wall.
The campaign initiated by the Philippine Commission runs from November 25, 2023, to December 12, 2023, and aims to increase awareness and to advocate End Violence Against Women.
The United Nations defines violence against women as "any act of gender-based violence that results in or is likely to result in physical, sexual, or mental harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life.
