Southern Leyte State U Bontoc and partners hold life-saving activities
To prepare for actual emergencies, Southen Leyte State U-Bontoc partnered with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) of Bontoc, Southern Leyte in implementing a fire drill on November 8, 2023 and an earthquake drill on two occasions, November 9 and 15, 2023, in participation of the 2023 4th Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED).
These activities were conducted to promote preparedness among Southern Leyte State U-Bontoc students and employees and to familiarize themselves with the necessary steps to take when an emergency occurs within Southern Leyte State U-Bontoc premises. Bontoc-BFP’s SF04 Carfilo G Jaballa, OIC-Municipal Fire Marshal, briefed participants on quick and orderly evacuation while avoiding structural and non-structural hazards. Participants also rehearsed the “duck, cover, hold” protocol as key to earthquake safety.
On the same morning of November 15, 2023, SLSU-Bontoc joined the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Bontoc, Southern Leyte, on a voluntary blood donation drive. Over 47 blood bags were collected from successful donors, 41 from students and six from employees. On top of the reported health benefits of donating blood, donors were treated to a meal and received exclusive T-shirts to remind everyone of our duty to save lives by becoming a blood donor.
