SLSU Clinches 3rd Place in Regional Quiz Bee Celebrating Organic Agriculture
Dawn Erica Pogoy, A Mighty Kingfisher from SLSU Hinunangan secured 3rd place in the recently concluded Kabataang OA Quiz Bee, a regional competition celebrating Organic Agriculture (OA) Month. In recognition of her achievement, she was awarded a cash prize of 5,000 pesos, a remarkable testament to her dedication and prowess in organic agriculture.
The event, which took place on November 6, 2023, was hosted at the Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center 8 (ATI-RTC 8) on the Visayas State University (VSU) campus in Visca, Baybay City, Leyte. In alignment with the Department of Agriculture's celebration of Organic Agriculture (OA) Month, the quiz bee emphasized the significance of sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices in today's world.
Representing SLSU were three exceptional agriculture students: Ronamae Puliran (BSA 4), Dawn Erica Pogoy (BSA 4), and Cherevie Masing (BSA 2), all from SLSU-Hinunangan Campus (SLSU-HC). Under the guidance of their dedicated coaches, Engr. Ana Mae Aquino and Ms. Ana Linda Gorme, both esteemed instructors in the agriculture department of SLSU-HC, the team showcased their profound knowledge and commitment to the field.
While SLSU celebrated Dawn Erica Pogoy's accomplishment, the 1st and 2nd places went to students from the host institution, Visayas State University. The competition was intense, but the SLSU-HC team exhibited admirable knowledge and sportsmanship throughout the event, making SLSU proud.
Ronamie Puliran and Cherevie Masing also participated vigorously, successfully progressing to the second elimination round. Their dedication and hard work did not go unnoticed, showcasing the talent and potential nurtured within SLSU-HC's agricultural program.
This event not only served as a competition but also provided a platform for participants to network, exchange ideas, and foster camaraderie among agriculture students in the region. As the next generation of agriculturists, these young minds play a pivotal role in developing the agricultural sector in the Philippines, further emphasizing the importance of sustainable agriculture practices.
