The Guidance and Counseling Office of SLSU-Hinunangan Campus (SLSU-HC), led by the campus Guidance Counselor Mrs. Charisse Ann S. Bugais-Pagobo, in collaboration with the Peer Facilitators Group (PFG), conducted a College Adjustment and Study Skills Seminar, on October 04, 2023, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, at the Student Welfare and Development Center (SWaDC). The activity aims to equip first-year students with essential skills and knowledge to navigate the challenges of college life effectively. With the knowledge that the transition from high school to college is crucial, the seminar provided valuable insights and strategies to ensure a smoother student transition.
Engr. Matthew M. Paug, the first resource speaker, who was a former Chapter Head of Youth for Christ – Hinunangan Chapter, emphasized the importance of balancing academic responsibilities and other aspects of college life.
"College is not just about academics; it's a training ground where you develop essential life skills. It's a time to shift your mindset from teenage life to early adulthood, where responsibilities and decisions hold greater significance," Engr. Paug stated.
Ms. Chanson Angelica De La Cruz, the second resource speaker, an alumna, and a current employee of SLSU-HC, focused on Study Skills, guiding students in discovering effective study strategies. She encouraged students to find their unique approach, saying, that there is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to study skills. She added that it is about understanding and finding the best study method that works.
The seminar allowed first-year students to learn from experienced professionals and peer facilitators who have successfully navigated the challenges of college life. It was a valuable initiative to support the academic and personal growth of the students at SLSU-Hinunangan. The Guidance and Counseling Office expressed their commitment to organizing more such seminars and workshops in the future to ensure that students receive the guidance and support they need for a successful college journey.
