SLSU-Bontoc’s Future Marine Biologists vie for #Youth4Biodiversity 2.0 project grant

A team of SLSU-Bontoc students taking up a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology was all smiles as they successfully defended their project proposal, “SEAroWaste Project,” for a chance to be granted funds under the #Youth4Biodiversity 2.0 initiative launched by the Foundation for the Philippine Environment (FPE).

During the virtual project pitching organized on October 1, 2023, BS Marine Biology students courageously defended their proposal before the esteemed panel of evaluators headed by FPE’s Interim Executive Director, Mr. Jerome L. Montemayor. The presented proposal, provided approved of budget, will facilitate youth-led initiatives in reducing the use of single-use plastics in the locality and achieving trash-free seas.

Ms. Alieza Del Socorro, BS Marine Biology Program Chair and the assigned project adviser sees this as an excellent opportunity for BS Marine Biology students to put their learnings into practice and simultaneously create tangible impacts on its locality.

The Youth for Biodiversity Conservation (#Youth4Biodiversity) program launched by the FPE in March 2021 is designed to foster partnerships for a collective impact on conserving biodiversity and addressing climate emergency. Under this program, projects can be granted small, medium, and large grants, depending on the funding assistance needed from FPE.
