SLSU welcomes new academic year
Southern Leyte State University-Main Campus (SLSU - MC) conducted a flag-raising ceremony at 7:30 AM on Monday, August 14, 2023, at the SLSU-MC Multi-Purpose Court. The activity marks the start of the new academic year, 2023-2024, and aims to warmly welcome new and returning students.
The event commenced with the singing of the national anthem, followed by the singing of the ASEAN Hymn and the SLSU Hymn, symbolizing unity and patriotism within the SLSU Community. Following this, University President, Dr. Jude A. Duarte, delivered his welcome speech to the faculty and the students.
The President began his speech by looking back to the previous academic year and emphasizing that this year, the university looks forward to making the school far better than the previous.
"We look forward on how to make the school year far better than the previous. We need to exceed what we have done previously, and need to break old habits, retain our best practices while we seek for our better goals to make us better employees, faculty and students-- as better teachers, and as better students," stated Dr. Duarte.
Dr. Duarte also gave message to the students for this academic year, encouraging them to maximize their potential and improve themselves. He also encouraged them to join school organizations that suit their interests.
The President also emphasized excellence as one major value and exercise of the university, reminding the faculty and staff members of their mission to help and support the students and urging the faculty not to deprive them of their services and expertise during their stay.
After the President's address, the new university key officials were introduced, followed by the onboarding and orientation for the new and transfer students of the A.Y. 2023-2024.
