Electrical Engineering faculty emerges as champion in FIRES pitching competition at SUC Fair 2023
Engr. Jonelle Tablada claimed the top spot in the Fair on Innovation, Research and Extension Services (FIRES) pitching competition on July 10, 2023 as one of the major activities during the SUC Fair 2023 in Iloilo City.
In collaboration with Engr. Khorina O. Aguilar who he developed the Technology with, Engr. Tablada presented their project entitled "PID-Controlled Automated Mixed-Type Multi-Commodity Dryer with Back-up Heater and SMS Notification" that focuses on the development of an automated heat control dryer equipped with a PID algorithm to regulate thermal energy.
The system also comprises a solar collector, a dryer, and a solar panel setup. By utilizing two heat sources - solar energy from the collector and a thermoelectric heating device - the dryer achieves optimal performance.
This innovative approach offers a clean drying method that employs green energy, ensuring sustainability, particularly in off-grid communities.

It can be recalled that that Engr. Tablada won the pitching contest during the first-ever AbanTeknolohiya: Regional Agri-Aqua Technology Fair at the Visayas State University where he showcased the same technology. His outstanding victory propelled him to represent the region in the national pitching competition, where he emerged as the ultimate champion.
Engr. Tablada currently serves as the Head of the Affiliated Renewable Energy Center (AREC) and is a faculty member of the Department of Electrical Engineering of the College of Engineering.
His innovative solution for clean drying using green energy has garnered recognition both in region and national levels, positioning him as a notable figure in the field of engineering and research.
In its third year, this year's SUC Fair was hosted by West Visayas State University (WVSU) that took place on July 10-13 and attracted participants from various state universities and colleges (SUCs) across the Philippines. The event was graced by over 1,130 participants from 82 SUCs nationwide.
This year's theme, "Navigating the Global Academic Landscape through Innovations, Cultural and Arts Preservation, and Higher Education Quality," was reflected through a booth exhibit that showcased the diverse cultures, products, and innovations of the participating regions and schools.
Moreover, cultural shows captivated the audience, celebrating the richness and diversity of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao's cultural heritage.
