DTE, Grad School launch DAGITAB to address low reading proficiency
Southern Leyte State University made a significant stride in education by launching the Diverse, Accessible, and Gainful Innovations in Teaching for the Advancements of Beneficiaries (DAGITAB) program on May 20, 2023.
This collaborative initiative brings together the Department of Teacher Education and Graduate School of the Main Campus, along with teachers from the Department of Education (DepEd) and local government units in Southern Leyte.
DAGITAB is an innovative and timely project that addresses the prevalent struggle of low reading proficiency among Filipino learners. In the Philippines, only 10 percent of students meet the minimum reading standard, emphasizing the need for effective solutions.
Aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, DAGITAB aims to provide quality basic education to all Filipino learners while enhancing their mathematical skills and promoting disaster risk reduction (DRR)-friendly schools to ensure children's safety during calamities.
At its core, DAGITAB embodies diverse, accessible, and gainful innovations in teaching. It offers a highly relevant and significant platform for DepEd to confront the existing educational challenges head-on.
Additionally, the program recognizes the crucial need for students and communities to learn about creating safe and conducive environments. By empowering Filipino learners to overcome barriers hindering their educational growth, DAGITAB aims to not only raise the standards of reading and writing proficiency but also foster a love for learning and develop critical thinking skills.
The program's primary objective is to elevate the proficiency of both male and female educators, spanning across Day-care, Pre-elementary, Elementary, and High School levels, as well as LGU officials in designated communities in Southern Leyte.
This comprehensive approach ensures that educators receive the necessary support and resources to enhance their teaching methods, ultimately benefiting the entire community.
