Southern Leyte State U produces new licensed educators, surpasses national passing rate
Southern Leyte State University has once again showcased its excellence in Teacher Education, solidifying its status as a Center for Development.
A total of 285 Mighty Kingfishers across all campuses have successfully passed the March 2023 Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET).
Among the successful examinees, 42 are newly licensed elementary teachers, while an impressive 243 have become licensed secondary teachers.
Notably, the university surpassed the national passing rates for both Elementary Education (40.76%) and Secondary Education (46.94%). The Main Campus and Tomas Oppus Campus achieved a remarkable 100% passing rate for first-time takers in elementary level.
Moreover, several campuses exhibited outstanding performance among first-time takers in Secondary Education. Tomas Oppus Campus achieved an impressive 91.67% passing rate, followed closely by the Main Campus (81.43%), San Juan Campus (81.16%), and Hinunangan Campus (69.49%).
An exceptional achievement worth highlighting is the success of the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED) program from Tomas Oppus Campus.
Out of the 73 passers in Secondary Education, 13 graduates hailed from the BPED program, showcasing a perfect 100% passing rate. This batch marks a significant milestone as they are the first batch of LET takers coming from the said program.
Similarly, the Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLED) program from the Main Campus has produced all the 69 successful passers in Secondary Education.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Annabelle M. Hufalar xpressed her elation at the impressive results.
"I commended the consistent performance of Southern Leyte State University in producing a substantial number of licensed teachers while maintaining a commendable institutional passing rate," Dr. Hufalar said, emphasizing her pride in the success of graduates from the Teacher Education programs offered across different campuses.
University President Dr. Jude A. Duarte extended his heartfelt congratulations to the newly licensed teachers, expressing his utmost confidence in their abilities.
"I encourage all the passers to uphold the qualities instilled in them by the university and to make a positive impact in the field of education," Dr. Duarte added.
Sitty Ken Rose Alip of Mindanao State University, Mikalea Andrea Bonador of the University of the Philippines-Diliman, Jose King Clet of Philippine Normal University, Cyntal Arra Dayag of the University of Mindanao, and Fritzie Mae Unabia of Cebu Technological University-Argao secured the top spot in Elementary Education, each with an impressive individual passing rate of 92.20%.
For Secondary Education, Mirven Cabesay of the University of Mindanao achieved the highest score with an individual passing rate of 93.40%.
In terms of top-performing schools, Bohol Island State University and the University of Santo Tomas secured a perfect 100% passing rate for the elementary level. Meanwhile, Philippine Normal University emerged as the top-performing school for secondary education with an institutional passing rate of 98.32%.
The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Board for Professional Teachers (BPT) reported that a total of 24,819 elementary teachers out of 60,896 examinees and 48,005 secondary teachers out of 102,272 examinees successfully passed the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers held on March 19, 2023, across 37 testing centers nationwide.
These remarkable achievements highlight the commitment to excellence demonstrated by Southern Leyte State U and its graduates, positioning them as valuable contributors to the field of education in the country.
