Tomas Oppus Campus, LGU Libagon sign MOA for anti-VAWC system implementation
To strengthen the fight to end violence against women and children (VAWC), and in celebration of Women's Month, Southern Leyte State University-Tomas Oppus Campus partners with the Local Government of Libagon on March 6, 2023.
Through signing the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), SLSU-Tomas Oppus will support the municipality of Libagon in its implementation of the anti-VAWC System by assisting them with the information drive.
The collaboration between LGU Libagon and SLSU-Tomas Oppus Campus aims to conduct a seminar-orientation on R.A. 9262 and distribute educational learning materials
The Inter-Agency Council on Violence Against Women and their Children (IACVAWC) of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) spearheads the effectiveness of the implementation of the Republic Act 9262 or Anti-VAWC, and coordinate and monitor VAWC-related initiatives.
Libagon is one of the municipalities of Southern Leyte that have several incidences of VAWC. Five cases have already been reported for the last three years. Hence, this partnership.
The municipality, however, started its massive VAWC campaign, through the Municipal Social Workers, that slowly mitigates this pressing issue.
The MOA signing was attended by the University President, Dr. Jude A. Duarte; Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services, Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy; Director for Extension Services, Dr. Frederick Aniga; Tomas Oppus Campus Director, Dr. Constantino G. Medilo, Jr.; Tomas Oppus Campus RIES Coordinator and faculty members of the Social Science Department.
LGU Libagon, on the other hand, was represented by SB Member, Honorable Tomas T. Endico, Chair for the Education Committee.
