Southern Leyte State U forges partnership with Sogod NHS for IT trends training-workshop

Southern Leyte State University signed a memorandum of agreement on February 9, 2023 on its partnership to provide Training-Workshop on IT Trends to faculty members and students of Sogod National High School (SNHS).

The partnership aims to equip SNHS teachers with necessary educational technology skills in order to make the delivery of education more effective.

Mrs. Aura O. Aguilar, SNHS Principal, shared that the school has been challenged in the conduct of distance learning because of the lack of teacher training, facilities and equipment.

"Although the DepEd has continually uplift educational technology in the country, it is still very challenging for us to adapt to the needs of the time most especially that with the educational landscape, technology is already deemed necessary to most of the students," Mrs. Aura said.

Not only the training-workshop will equip SNHS teachers but it is also be an avenue for the them to encourage their students to pursue Information and Communications Technology (ICT) courses.

Representing University President Dr. Jude A. Duarte, Vice President for Administration and Finance Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes highighted that the Southern Leyte State U continues to partner with several government agencies and private organizations on extension services to conduct trainings and programs of the same nature.

"Things are evolving very fast these days, thus the rising needs to continuously upskill, and reskill talents are inevitable. It gives way to the new definition of literacy and competence as the ability to unlearn, relearn, and learn," Dr. Yepes added.

While both institutions acknowledged the huge challenge to education brought about by the pandemic even after almost three years, they also noted that this collaboration will also pay the way for a big opportunity to introduce new ways of doing things.

Present in the signing of MOA were the key officials of Southern Leyte State U, and Mrs. Aura together with some SNHS faculty members.
