Southern Leyte State U's The Mighty Kingfishers Basketball Team places 2nd in an exhibition game at BIPSU

The Mighty Kingfishers Men's Basketball Team of Southern Leyte State University placed 1st runner-up during the final game of the pocket tournament on August 29, 2022 at Biliran Province State University (BIPSU).

The Mighty Kingfishers played against the basketball team of Samar State University (SSU) in which the latter took home the championship title.

Both basketball teams participated in tournament organized by BIPSU as part of their activities for their golden founding anniversary on August 31. This was participated by the different basketball teams from the different state universities and colleges (SUCs) in the region.

Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) also participated in the said game alongside the three participating SUCs.

The exhibition game aims to hone the sportsmanship among the athletes and strengthen the ties between BIPSU and other SUCs in Eastern Visayas region.

University President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes took to social media to express her felicitations to The Mighty Kingfishers.

"Congratulations SLSU Basketball Varsity for your notable performance at BIPSU", Dr. Yepes said while also congratulating the Head Coach and the Assistant Coach, Mr. Aaron Espinas and Mr. Errol Jet Arong, respectively.

Before the championship game, The Mighty Kingfishers won against BIPSU with 82-67 score which led Southern Leyte State U's basketball team to the championship game. 

The exhibition game was held on August 27-29. BIPSU President Dr. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr. expressed his gratitude to the teams who participated during the three-day activity and for taking part of their 50th Anniversary.
