CHED approves another 15M grant to support Southern Leyte State U's flexible learning
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) approved yet another 15 million grant to Southern Leyte State University to support its Flexible Learning System. The project is spearheaded by Mr. Francis Rey F. Padao, the Director of the University Information Systems and Analytics (UISA).
The grant aims to upgrade the open learning hub and virtual lecture training room multimedia studio. With this enhancement, the university will be able to maximize the benefits of a very modern training program which will effectively facilitate the learning process of students in an online and onsite setting. This shall pave the way for the improvement of the delivery of instruction. Likewise, this allows students and employees to enjoy wide access to the world of information and a healthy working environment.
On behalf of Southern Leyte State U, University President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes extended her heartfelt gratitude to CHED especially to Chairperson J. Prospero E. De Vera III, and to the panel members who reviewed and endorsed the proposal for approval.
“We are also equally grateful to Commissioner Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag for his faith in this project and for sharing his words of encouragement, support, and inspiration for the project,” President Yepes added.
The facility will be placed at the new library in the Main Campus, located next to the Department of Teacher Education building.
This undertaking is to answer the present challenges in learning that concern the students, employees, and parents. Further, this is another step taken by Southern Leyte State U to be a smart university.
24.5M funding to improve flexible learning
Aside from the 15 million grant, it can be recalled that Southern Leyte State U was granted with P24, 568,110.00 funding sometime in June last year from the Smart Campus Development program of CHED for the Establishment of the University's enterprise network infrastructure and multimedia centers.
This will strengthen the capability of Southern Leyte State U to facilitate flexible learning and would result in a more efficient way of delivering administrative and academic services in the entire University system.
The project also helps to connect all six (6) campuses to work as one network. It is an intervention that will lay down the foundation and support to the university’s ongoing initiatives to successfully implement the Flexible Learning Management System in which the existing cloud-hosted Learning Management System (LMS) serves all 9 colleges across all campuses.
This CHED initiative is anchored on RA 11494, otherwise known as the “Bayanihan to Recover as One Act”, which appropriated three billion pesos to assist state universities and colleges in the development of smart campuses through investments in ICT infrastructure, acquisition of learning management systems and other appropriate equipment to fully implement flexible learning modalities.
