SLSU sets meeting with LGU, local gov't sectors for a possible f2f limited class next sem, encourages students, faculty, staff to get vaccinated
The Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) is applying for the conduct of the limited face-to-face classes for second semester of the academic year 2021-2022 following the statement of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Prospero de Vera III allowing 50% limited capacity of the traditional in-person classes in all degree programs in the areas under Alert Level II.
For SLSU, the limited face-to-face classes are intended for the laboratory subjects of eight (8) programs—Industrial Technology, Food Technology, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management.
SLSU invited the local government of Sogod, Rural Health Unit (RHU) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in a meeting on Tuesday morning, November 9, and conducted an ocular inspection in the Main Campus to identify the retrofitting designs.
Dr. Francis Ann Sy, Vice President for Academics, Research and Innovation shares that the best retrofitting designs should be built in the university to ensure the safety of the students, faculty, and staff.
Retrofitting is making changes to the facilities of the university to ensure the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff while inside the university premises. Classrooms shall be created with divisions using screens, panels, sneeze guards, partitions or other barriers to observe physical distancing.
During the Vaccine Awareness Acceleration Campaign on November 5, Vice President for Students and Auxiliary Services Dr. Annabelle Hufalar encouraged all the students and university employees to do their part and be vaccinated to attain the required percentage in the gradual reopening of face-to-face classes.
Further, University President Dr. Prose Ivy Yepes emphasized that vaccination is important in gearing towards a better new normal while sharing the importance of vaccination especially in the implementation of the limited face-to-face classes.
“We will not go back to the old normal, we are moving towards a better new normal. As we gradually reopen the university to welcome you, let us protect ourselves so we can protect others too.” President Yepes said.
Aside from retrofitting and 50% capacity of the total number of students each program, part of the requirements that are subject for the approval of CHED also includes fully vaccinated faculty, staff, and students, and concurrence and support from the LGU.
SLSU, President Yepes said, is doing its best to comply all the needed requirements in order to deliver a much better quality education and service for the students, stakeholders, and the communities it serves. .
